I have tried to identify the studios and other recording locations that The Spotnicks have used since the time with The Rebels to Bo Winberg’s very last work My Tribute To Les Paul and also document which songs were recorded where and here is the result of my research.

It turned out to be a little more difficult than I had hoped because there is several contradictory information in circulation in different contexts, especially when it comes to recordings during the period 1962 – 64, and I have had to make some of my own assumptions as to what is most likely.

This applies, for example, to what the group recorded at Levy’s Sound Studios in London (for Oriole Records) in October 1962. There is information that they recorded 10 songs for the album In London but also that there were 18 in total.
I have decided to register 17 recorded songs at that session, but I have to make a reservation about that. If there are fewer than 17 the alternative recording location is Europafilm’s Studios in Mariehäll in Stockholm, but I do not know which songs it would be in that case.

Other information that appears is that the recordings for the album In Spain took place in Gothenburg, but the truth is that it was recorded in Europafilm’s Studios, which also applies to In Stockholm and parts of In Berlin.

The record company Karusell did not have its own studio so their recordings were mostly made in Europafilm’s Studios. Bo Winberg did not have equipment to make stereo recordings until 1965, and before that, mono recordings were the norm.

However, there are a number of mono recordings from the years 1961 to 1964 that were converted to stereo afterwards, so called ”electronic stereo”. This applies, for example, to Orange Blossom Special and The Rocket Man which are available in such stereo versions on In London but also for a few other songs.

Lars Åkerström’s book about The Spotnicks mentions that Bo Winberg and Göran ”Sam” Samuelsson together formed the studio Maulen Records in 1966, but since I do not know what was possibly recorded there, I have omitted it from my documentation for the time being.
