Den h\u00e4r ber\u00e4ttelsen av Bo Winberg om hans m\u00f6te med idolen Les Paul publicerades f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen \u00e5r 2004 p\u00e5 hemsidan. Vi har alla Les att tacka f\u00f6r att Bo Winberg ”blev den han blev” och d\u00e4rf\u00f6r tycker jag att det finns sk\u00e4l att \u00e5terigen l\u00e5ta alla ta del av texten igen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jag fyllde pension\u00e4r den 27 mars 2004 och det firade jag med Lenah i San Fransisco, en underbar stad som v\u00e4l \u00e4r den hippaste i hela USA. Hursomhelst s\u00e5 hade jag en liten id\u00e9 i bakfickan.<\/p>\n

Jag har sedan m\u00e5nga \u00e5r vetat att Les Paul spelar p\u00e5 m\u00e5ndagar i New York p\u00e5 en liten club som heter Iridium Jazz Club. Tyv\u00e4rr s\u00e5 har jag alltid missat detta tillf\u00e4lle f\u00f6r – antingen s\u00e5 har jag anl\u00e4nt p\u00e5 m\u00e5ndag kv\u00e4ll, eller ocks\u00e5 s\u00e5 har flyget till Sverige haft avg\u00e5ng p\u00e5 m\u00e5ndag kv\u00e4ll.<\/p>\n

Nu hade jag dock best\u00e4mt mig f\u00f6r att denna g\u00e5ng skulle det bara ske – jag bara skulle till Iridium Jazz Club och lyssna p\u00e5 Les Paul – s\u00e5 det s\u00e5! Allts\u00e5 kommer Lenah och undertecknad med taxi fr\u00e5n flygplatsen till just Iridium Jazz Club p\u00e5 Manhattan i New York.
\nJag visste att det var tv\u00e5 f\u00f6rest\u00e4llningar, en klockan 20.00 och en 22.00 och vi anl\u00e4nde kl 20.00. En mycket v\u00e4nlig herre i entr\u00e9n talade om f\u00f6r oss att vi just hade missat den f\u00f6rsta showen, men att det gick bra att komma in p\u00e5 den andra om vi hade bokat biljetter. Detta hade vi ju naturligtvis inte gjort, men vi kunde f\u00e5 en plats n\u00e4sta m\u00e5ndag..!!!<\/p>\n

Jag h\u00f6ll p\u00e5 att flyga i luften, men min k\u00e4ra hustru Lenah sa helt enkelt:
\n– G\u00e5 du och st\u00e4ll dig n\u00e5gon annanstans och var tyst, s\u00e5 tar jag hand om detta<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Och det gjorde hon.<\/p>\n

In kom vi och det var en helt makal\u00f6s f\u00f6rest\u00e4llning. Min idol som startade det hela spelade s\u00e5 att jag gr\u00e4t. Dessutom s\u00e5 d\u00f6k det upp diverse g\u00e4startister som t.ex. Stanley Jordan och lite andra proffs och det tog \u00e5tskilliga dagar att sm\u00e4lta att man hade varit med om.<\/p>\n

Nu kommer jag dock till pudelns k\u00e4rna och tillika en f\u00f6rklaring till bilden. Jag hade gett mig f-n p\u00e5 att ge Mr Guitar en LP med The Spotnicks och att f\u00e5 en bild som bekr\u00e4ftade detta.
\nAllts\u00e5 s\u00e5 v\u00e4ntade jag l\u00e4nge p\u00e5 att f\u00e5 tr\u00e4ffa honom och till slut n\u00e4r han hade signerat n\u00e5gra gamla LP s\u00e5 tog jag mig samman och sa:<\/p>\n

– Jo, Mr Les Paul. Jag b\u00f6rjade min musikaliska bana som pianist, men n\u00e4r jag h\u00f6rde Tiger Rag p\u00e5 radion s\u00e5 besl\u00f6t jag mig f\u00f6r att b\u00f6rja spela elgitarr ist\u00e4llet.<\/em><\/p>\n

Les sa:
\n– Is that so?<\/em><\/p>\n

Jag svarade:
\n– Yes, and I\u00b4m still playing and still on the road.<\/em><\/p>\n

S\u00e5 f\u00f6rklarade jag att jag hade spelat in en hel del l\u00e5tar som han sj\u00e4lv hade spelat in och visade honom LP’n The Spotnicks Unlimited<\/strong>.
\nHan blev faktiskt ganska \u00f6verraskad n\u00e4r han s\u00e5g titlar som Wabash Blues och Goodnight Irene, l\u00e5tar som han sj\u00e4lv har spelat in f\u00f6r l\u00e4nge, l\u00e4nge sedan.<\/p>\n

Det \u00e4r sv\u00e5rt att skriva s\u00e5 att det inte l\u00e5ter som skryt, men jag sa till Les Paul att jag ville egentligen inte ha hans autograf, men att han kunde f\u00e5 min. Jag f\u00f6rklarade att den h\u00e4r gamla LP’n var inspelad f\u00f6r l\u00e4nge sedan och att min namnteckning finns p\u00e5 omslaget under orden:<\/p>\n

God Bless Les<\/strong><\/p>\n

Faktum var att Les Paul tyckte att detta var udda och n\u00e4r jag sa att det enda jag \u00f6nskade var att f\u00e5 en bild p\u00e5 oss ihop n\u00e4r jag \u00f6verl\u00e4mnade LP’n till honom s\u00e5 sa han:
\n– Of course!<\/em><\/p>\n

Sammanfattningsvis s\u00e5 blir det ju s\u00e5 h\u00e4r att efter att ha tr\u00e4ffat sin idol efter 50 \u00e5r s\u00e5 \u00e4r det v\u00e4l inte s\u00e5 mycket att till\u00e4gga.<\/p>\n

Les Paul \u00e4r 83 \u00e5r gammal och spelar fortfarande p\u00e5 Iridium Jazz Club p\u00e5 m\u00e5ndagar.

This story by Bo Winberg about his meeting with the idol Les Paul was first published on this homepage in 2004. We all have to be grateful to Les for Bo Winberg ’becaming as he became’ so I find it motivated to let everyone read the text again<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I became a pensioner on 27 March and it was celebrated, together with Lenah, in San Francisco, a wonderful city as well is the hippest in the entire United States.<\/em><\/p>\n

I also had an idea in mind on this trip. I have for many years been known that Les Paul plays on Mondays in New York, at a small club called Iridium Jazz Club. Unfortunately, as I had always missed this opportunity before – either I arrived on Monday evenings or so has flight to Sweden departured on Monday evenings.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now, however, I had made up my mind and this time I should go to Iridum Jazz Club and listen to Les Paul, whatever it takes! Therefore, Lenah and I took a taxi from the airport to the Iridium Jazz Club in Manhattan in New York this Monday.<\/em><\/p>\n

I knew that there were two performances, one at 8 p.m. and the other at 10 p.m. We arrived at 8 o’clock.\u00a0A very friendly doorman told us that we had just missed the first show, but that it was good to get into the other if we had booked tickets. This was, of course, nothing we had – but we could get a place next Monday!!!<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0I was about to explode, but my dear wife Lenah simply said to me:<\/em>
\n– Go away and keep silent. I take care of this.<\/p>\n

And she did.<\/em><\/p>\n

We came in and it was a unprecedented idea. My idol that started it all and I cried when he played. Several guest musicians joined in, such as Stanley Jordan and a some other pro musicians and it took several days afterwards to take everything in.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now I will explain about the picture. I had decided to give Mr. Guitar an LP with The Spotnicks and to have a picture to confirmed this special moment. I had to wait a long time before I got to meet him and after he had signed a number of old LP’s I took courage and said:<\/em><\/p>\n

– Well, Mr. Les Paul. I started my musical career as pianist, but when I heard Tiger Rag on the radio so I decided to start playing electric guitar instead.<\/p>\n

Les said:<\/em>
\n– Is that so?<\/p>\n

\u00a0I said:<\/em>
\n– Yes, and I am still playing and still on the road.<\/p>\n

So I explained that I had recorded lots of the songs he had played himself, and showed him the LP The Spotnicks Unlimited.
\n<\/strong><\/em>He was actually quite surprised when he saw titles as Wabash Blues and Goodnight Irene, songs that he had recorded a long time ago.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is difficult to write so it not will sound boasting, but I said to Les Paul that he could get my autograph. I explained that this LP was recorded for a long time and that my signature is on the cover page beside the words:<\/em><\/p>\n

Good Bless Les<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Les Paul thought this was a bit odd and when I asked for a picture of us together when I submitted LP ’ n to him as he said:<\/em><\/p>\n

– Of course!<\/p>\n

Lenah took the picture with Bob’s small digital camera.In conclusion, after having met my idol after 50 years, it is not so much more to add.<\/em><\/p>\n

Les Paul is 83 years old and still play on Iridium Jazz Club on Mondays.<\/em>
